Building Safer, Cleaner Communities: The Radius Group Joins Forces with Green Teams Canada for Litter Cleanup

Making an Impact Where It Counts
What does protecting communities really look like?
For The Radius Group, it means going beyond building safety systems and stepping directly into the community to make a difference. On June 23, 2025, our team partnered with the Lower Mainland Green Team, part of Green Teams Canada, to take action through a hands-on litter cleanup around our Richmond workplace.
The result? 120 pounds of litter removed, countless takeaways, and a stronger, more connected team.
Why We Joined the Cleanup
As a company dedicated to protecting people and property, our commitment extends beyond fire protection and security. We believe that contributing to safer, healthier communities starts with simple, local actions - and that’s exactly what this cleanup was all about.
With expert guidance from Green Teams Canada, our staff learned about:
- The impact of litter on waterways, wildlife, and public health
- How litter travels through wind and water reaching far beyond where it’s dropped
- The role invasive plants play in disrupting local ecosystems
This wasn’t just a cleanup, it was an eye-opener.
The Results: What We Found and What We Learned
Over the course of two 1.5-hour sessions, 13 Radius staff members collected and removed a wide range of discarded items, many of which surprised even us.
By the Numbers:
- 120 lbs of litter collected - equivalent to a Giant Pacific Octopus!
- 3,000+ pieces of litter removed or estimated, including:
- 590+ cigarette butts
- 112+ food wrappers
- 97+ bits of paper and cardboard
- 64+ pieces of styrofoam
- A broken toaster oven, a sparkly tree… and someone’s leftover lunch
We also helped clean up a known illegal dumping site, flagged large items for city pickup, and discovered just how much trash can go unnoticed, until you start looking for it.
Building Team Spirit Through Purpose
This was more than a cleanup, it was a team-building experience rooted in purpose.
For seven staff members, it was their first time participating in an environmental initiative like this. By the end of the day, everyone walked away with a deeper sense of connection, to each other and to the community we call home.
And yes, we wrapped it all up with well-earned snacks (brownies, anyone?).
Why It Matters
At Radius, our mission is clear: to protect what matters most. That includes taking responsibility for the environments we live and work in. Participating in initiatives like this reinforces the values we stand for - safety, responsibility, and community leadership.
As Melissa, our Director of People & Culture, put it:
“We’re so proud to do our part today. We feel inspired. The team was so engaging and took really great care of us!”
