MANUFACTURING PLANT FIRE SAFETY PLANS ARE OF VITAL IMPORTANCE

Anticipating and planning for a potential fire is important for any business. It’s especially important for a manufacturing plant that may have scores of employees and millions of dollars of equipment needing protection against damage.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has a lot of published information on creating Fire Safety Plans.

Here are the important points that should be included in a manufacturing plant Fire Safety Plan below:

1. In broad strokes, the Fire Safety Plan should include clear and detailed instructions for how all people are to evacuate the building in the case of fire or suspected fire.

2. There should be detailed instructions for what can be done in order to prevent fire.

3. There should be information on what can be done to minimize damage if a fire should occur.

These are the major points, above, but a Fire Safety Plan is actually a big document, the whole contents of which is beyond the scope of this article.

It will include, for example, what to do if you suspect a fire, if you see a fire, and if you hear a fire alarm.

The document will also outline who is in charge, or who is the designated fire warden for a given area or floor.

You need to know how to manage the evacuation of any employees with disabilities.

And once you have your Fire Safety Plan in place, it’s important to practice and go through some trial runs including having one or more persons act as a disabled party needing evacuation.

Creating a Fire Safety Plan is a big deal, and you may need some help from professionals in order to make sure your plan covers all the topics and details necessary.
